This is a WONDERFUL setting.
This piece, while accessible for a church choir (not many part splits, and repetitive enough to learn with little rehearsal), is a stunning rendition of Rossetti's poem. Reminiscent of Lauridsen's work, the sound is warm and lush, simple and profound. A really nice piece for professional or amateur choir alike. I sang for 5 seasons with The Dale Warland Singers at the beginning of my performing career and this is a piece I could hear being done breathtakingly by a choir of that tonal focus, while its simplicity allowed our volunteer church choir to do a moving job of it as well. I look forward to finding more by this composer!
