By Miles Davis. By Miles Davis. Arranged by Lincoln Goines. This edition: pdf, streaming. Jazz. 10 pages. Lincoln Goines #1105922. Published by Lincoln Goines (A0.1532738).
This is an arrangement of the Miles Davis classic from the 1959 album Kind of Blue with the original Paul Chambers bass line stretched over a 5/4 time frame, and a tri-tone modulation from G7 to Db7 in the coda section.
Careful attention should be given to the articulations, especially in the Bass 2 and 3 parts. The double-stops in these parts could also be assigned to separate players, depending on the size of the ensemble.
Performance Tips:
-Dynamics and accents should be exaggerated
-Maximum/minimum volume should match the dynamic range of the human voice-Amplifier/preamp bass frequency attenuation controls should be flat, even rolled back or switched off
-Carefully tuning to a common perfect fifth (eg. G and D, D and A) is critical.
