This set of short pieces begins in a contemporary (although tonal) harmonic language and gradually carries the listener 'back in time' to a more romantic tonality. The five 'photographs' hint at a possible story connecting the different images, but these connections are intentionally ambiguous. During the postlude, the harmony gradually shifts back to a contemporary style to finish the composition as it began.
