Arranged for Flexible String Orchestra
This accessible arrangement of Bach’s Air on a G String has been specially created for school string orchestras, youth ensembles, and mixed-ability groups, allowing complete beginners and advanced players to perform together confidently.
Every optional Part B line is written entirely on open strings, making it ideal for very young or first-lesson players learning to produce sound and develop ensemble skills. More experienced musicians can perform the standard parts, offering musical depth and challenge up to Grade 8 level, ensuring that all players participate meaningfully within the same performance.
To accommodate ensembles with limited instrumentation, a Violin 3 part doubles the Viola line, enabling the piece to be performed even when viola players are scarce. An optional piano part provides harmonic support, reinforces pitch, and is particularly helpful during rehearsals and performances.
With a duration of approximately 3 minutes, this arrangement works perfectly as a concert opener, educational showcase, or short programme piece for school concerts, youth orchestras, and community ensembles.
