De suite 'Fra Holbergs Tid' (Uit Holbergs Tijd) opus 40 werd oorspronkelijk voor piano geschreven. Ludwig Holberg was een dramaturg die de bijnaam 'Molière van het Noorden' kreeg. In deze suite verwerkte Grieg diverse oude dansen (sarabande, gavotte, rigaudon) met totaal originele eigen harmonieën. Willy Hautvast maakte dit fijne arrangement van de 'Air', een subtiel andante religioso, uit deze suite.

The suite 'Fra Holbergs Tid' (Holberg Suite) opus 40 was originally written for piano and then arranged for strings. Ludwig Holberg was a dramatist who got the nickname 'Molière of Northern Europe'. In this suite Grieg used several old dances (sarabande, gavotte, rigaudon) with completely new original harmonies. Willy Hautvast made this fine arrangement of the 'Air', a subtle andante religioso, extrac-ted from this suite.
