Composed in March 2019 for the St. Paul Choir at the Church of St. Paul the Apostle in New York City and first performed there on Sunday, April 7, 2019.  Based on the familiar German hymn “Herzliebster Jesu,” this unaccompanied motet offers a sublime musical experience for congregations and audiences alike during the season of Lent. Anchored by a homophonic four part middle, the piece alternates between a soloist or unison section and imitative settings of the text.
