Against All Odds by Phil Collins is a sad song. A song about a man, who is reflecting about being left by his girlfriend, but he still loves her. I liked to support the outbursting emotion of this song, so I spent effort in the orchestra to make it cry out loud: Take a look at me now and decided to let the high violins do it by creating a counterpoint melody to the voice, that always changes a bit and develops with the onging song. The introduction gives us a glimpse into his desperate feelings of hopelessness: it quotes motifs from the song as fragments of something that once belonged together, and the harmony gives us the impression of looking at different perspectives of the past.

I hope you enjoy playing this arrangement as much as I enjoyed writing it. This arrangement and has been first performed by Göttinger Symphonieorchester in Göttingen/Germany.
