After the Storm is a emotional and thematic musical composition of moderate level difficulty. It was composed reflecting the aftermath of a storm, when people start picking up the pieces. The piece features some classical elements, along with some more modern elements, with contracting slow, emotional and fast, energetic sections, changing time signatures including a section of alternating mixed meter, a section in 1/2 with quintuplet arpeggios, and dynamic contrasts.
The piece reflects on what comes after the storm, starting from the calm shock, reflection and assessment, then the cleanup work to be done, picking up the pieces, another moment of reflection and remembrance, then the growth and the overcoming of the difficulty for new possibilities. The song hits strongest to me (Michael Clinesmith) when going through difficult times, reflecting on the past, but hoping for growth and confidence in the future.
