Adagio from String Quintet in C Major by Franz Schubert Acoustic Guitar - Digital Sheet Music

By Franz Schubert

The String Quintet in C was completed in 1828, two months before the composer's death. It is generally regarded as Schubert's finest chamber work. The adagio second movement, with its haunting rhythm, has been called sublime, and often used as background music in films. The movement is in ternary form (ABA), but the boistrous B section has been left out of the guitar arrangement, with only bar 31 (before the return of the main theme) hinting at its chromaticism. The guitar arrangement is therefore binary (AA), with the captivating theme in both sections built up through roving modulations before settling back on E major. The note lengths of the original score have been used, so the bass notes on guitar will sound longer than indicated, depending on the situation.
