The piece opens with a haunting soprano saxophone solo which may also be played on pennywhistle, wood flute, piccolo or other soprano woodwind instrument. As the composition unfolds, unique colors of the ensemble are explored as the harmonic structure becomes denser. Other featured solo instruments are trumpet, tenor saxophone, piano and drums.
