This composition is made up of three themes, which feature all thefacets of the instrumentation of a concert band as well as that ofa big band. The symphonic passages, reminiscent of film music,enable the full tone and colour of the concert band to be heard,whilst the big band sound is represented in the rock segments andslow swing sections. The musical journey travels along practicallyall styles, ending with an impressive tutti, in which the shufflerhythm of the big band melts together with the grand, classic filmmusic sound of the concert band.

Absolute Crossover is een werk dat aan de ene kant de unieke kenmerken van zowel harmonieorkest als bigband onderstreept, maar aan de andere kant een gezamenlijk optreden mogelijk maakt. Het harmonieorkest komt vooral tot zijnrecht in de symfonische passages, die doen denken aan filmmuziek, terwijl de bigband zich meer thuis voelt in de rockfragmenten en de langzame swinggedeelten. De muzikale reis voert langs vele stijlen en wordt afgesloten met eengroots tutti, waarin het shuffleritme van de bigband versmelt met de aan filmmuziek gerelateerde 12/8 maatsoort van het harmonieorkest.

Absolute Crossover schrieb Otto M. Schwarz zugleich für ein Blasorchester und für eine Big Band. Das Resultat wird beiden Orchestertypen gerecht: Es zeigt alle Facetten beider Instrumentierungen, wobei dem Blasorchester die sinfonischen, filmmusikalischen Passagen entgegenkommen, während die Big Band sich in den rockigen Elementen und langsamen Swing-Abschnitten wieder findet. Eine absolut aufregende Mischung!

Absolute Crossover (“Croisement absolu”) est une commande conjointe de l’Orchestre d’Harmonie autrichien TK-Molzbichl et du Big Band de la Cité Scolaire de Spittal. L’œuvre se devait de mettre en valeur les spécificités de chaque formation tout en permettant une interprétation commune. Absolute Crossover développe trois thèmes qui illustrent les multiples facettes de l’instrumentation propre chacune des deux formations. L’Orchestre d’Harmonie se dévoile dans les passages symphoniques proches de la musique de film tandis que le Big Band reprend la main dans les passages aux accents de rock et de swing lent.Presque tous les styles y sontreprésentés. Le tutti final est impressionnant : le rythme shuffle du Big Band rencontre la mesure 12/8 de l’Orchestre d’Harmonie installé dans un grand schéma de musique de film.
