A Time There Was werd geschreven in opdracht van het Trompetterkorps Koninklijke Marechaussee. De compositie heeft een koraalmatig karakter en is in eerste instantie bestemd voor het opluisteren van herdenkingen of als rustpunt in een concert. Aan het slot wordt de opening van het kerklied uren, dagen, maanden, jaren geciteerd, refererend aan de vergankelijkheid van het bestaan.

A Time There Was, was composed after being commissioned by the Trumpet Corps of the Royal Dutch Military Police. The piece is chorale like in character and was initially intended for memorial like concerts. It is also suitable as a quiet interlude in your concert. At the end of the piece the opening of the Dutch hymn “Hours, Days, Months, Years” is quoted, referring to the transient nature of existence.

A Time There Was a été commandé par le Corps des Clairons de la Gendarmerie Royale. La composition a un caractère de chorale et est principalement destinée aux commémorations ou comme point de repos dans un concert. À la fin, dans l'ouverture de la chanson de l'église sont citées des heures, des jours, des mois, des années, se référant à la nature transitoire de l'existence.

A Time There Was entstand im Auftrag des Trompetterkorps Koninklijke Marechaussee. Die Komposition hat einen choralartigen Charakter und eignet sich in erster Linie zur Gestaltung von Gedenkfeiern oder als Ruhepunkt in einem Konzert. Am Schluss wird das Kirchenlied Uren, Dagen, Maanden, Jaren (dt. Stunden, Tage, Monate, Jahre) zitiert, wodurch auf die Vergänglichkeit allen Seins Bezug genommen wird.
