A Royal Affinity for String Quartet is a stately, neoclassical piece for a String Quartet, either for school or wedding ensemble. It was inspired by the sound of Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusik. This composition has a few delightful elements. * It not only switches from 3/4 time to 6/8 time and back again. The primary melody is identical in both sections but the downbeat changes. * In the style if Bach, there are some melodic inversion, including a section where the original motif and the inversion are intertwined. * There are some interesting minor key variations as well. * A couple of counting / conducting devices have been included to make the time signature changes as smooth as possible for musicians and conductor alike.
Although it's not difficult, it would make a great contest or concert piece.
