Published by Charles Tuttle (A0.1301324).The bass kicks things off with perhaps the most iconic bass line in the jazz idiom, and as the intro continues, the chart adds the drums, a piano montuno, and funky supporting figures, until finally the guitar enters with the melody on top of this crunchy foundation. Drawing from the original recording of this tune, the intro and head begin in a cha-cha feel, but then breifly switch to swing for just the last phrase of each A section. The bridge swings, the last A section brings us back to the wonky cha cha-feel and finally the ensemble transitions into an epic head-banging breakdown for the interlude before launching into solos. Solo space for Alto 1, Tenor 1, Bari, Tpt 2, Bone 1, and/or rhythm section.
