Benton (A0.1547427).This hymn features a new musical tune A REAL MAN, CMD, intended for use with Joseph Hart’s hymn “A Man There Is A Real Man” as recorded on pp. 10-11 of Hymns, etc. Composed on Various Subjects, 15th ed., published by S. Kollock, Elizabethtown, 1799. The original text has been modified by combining CM verses into CMD pairs, with minor alterations to the original text of verse 6, which is now the second half of the third verse. To capture the mystery and tension of Christ’s incarnation, the text is paired with a new tune in Dorian mode, which is set to harmony with prominent use of secondary dominant and parallel major chords.
The hymn is in SATB piano score (hymn) format for congregational singing, choral singing, ensemble, or solo; whether a capella, or with piano accompaniment.
