Loving Imitation
This is a paraphrase akin to those of Liszt and Grainger; here Ravel takes a well-known tune and embellishes it - but in the style of Chabrier (who did not write paraphrases either)! Clearly Ravel was familiar with the Valses Romantiques and the Pieces Pittoresques and able to adopt their style convincingly and, I think, lovingly rather than mockingly. Good, clear edition.
