As a composer, I want to leave the specifics regarding the story of this music open for the interpretations of students. Hopefully this piece creates an opportunity for classes to discuss what “A Hero’s Journey” might mean to them.
Techniques that will be explored in this piece include dynamics, slurs/bow articultions, basic shifting, dotted rhythms, hemiola rhythms, and duple against triple meter. This work also implements a variety of musical expressions including tenderamente, epico, energico e grazioso, dolce, risoluto, maestoso, liberamente, and misterioso, so it is a great pedagogical tool for learning musical terminology and working on musical artistry.
