I read the poem as remembering the time when a brief romantic encounter was a highlight of the poet’s youth. It should be sung with a certain amount of nostalgia. There are places where liberty with the tempo can be taken as in measures 27- the first half of measure 32. The words, “found” and “loved” in this section should be nudged and unhurried.
The various statements of “it is always brimming May” can have different emotional approaches. However, the last statement of that phrase, is a big smile at remembering the fleeting affair.
