We present for you here a musical story a la Orpheus in this Tone Poem for Orchestra. We have all heard the expression "like a bat out of hell." Bats like it cool and damp; Hell is hot and dry. This is the musical story of a hapless little bat who finds himself in hell-and desperately wants to get out. He timidly flies around in ominous surroundings (we hear his 'bat' motif-which intertwines in various ways in the orchestral textures), looking for a way out. He has a 'dance with the Devil', and finally sees some hope of escape; but will he make it out before the gates of Hell slam shut? Scored for full orchestra, this colorful and exciting work will challenge your musicians and thrill your audience with it's entertaining musical story. About 6:45 performance time.
