In 2005 I was privileged to study music composition at the College Conservatory of located at The University of Cincinnati. One of the pieces I presented for my master's thesis was this, '3 Pieces for Solo Piano'. The pieces are intended to stand on their own or be performed together as a suite. In 2005 I was very much interested in pursuing film music as a career, as such each piece presented here explores a decidedly different thematic concept or combination thereof, in my attempt to learn more about harnessing dramatic expression.
'I. Heroic Western' is my attempt to harness the 'Go-West-Young-Man' spirit of Americana Copland with sprinkles of Gershwin.
'II. Sunken Rag' is an homage to Debussy's 'Sunken Cathedral' if only he had some time to spend with Scott Joplin.
"III. New Tango' is a play on Argentinian rhythms and simple melodic constructs with chromatic rivers running through the texture.
