Get the Peters Edition
I decided to take up these nocturnes because Chopin loved them and loved assigning them to his students. I can see why. I've learned a lot from studying them. As far as I can tell, there is no Urtext edition of the nocturnes (happy to be wrong here). Henle publishes the sonatas and not the nocturnes, for example. So one must choose an editor to trust. There's this anonymously edited edition, the one by Liszt, and the Koehler edition available from Edition Peters. The Koehler's fingerings are certainly better for me, and I like his dynamic and interpretative indications better. So while I'm happy I purchased this music, I'd have been happier with the Peters. (The Peters edition is available from this site.)Possibly, though, your hands and taste will differ from mine.

Accessible and inexpensive
This music deserves to be played. All hashed meditation music must be replaced.

Music of John Field.
Some of the pieces in this book are, for me, difficult enough to have to practice. Others, I can sight-read and are worth the effort.
