12 Modern Etudes for Solo Saxophone
James Rae dedicated this volume to the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. This suggest that the etudes are aimed at players who have reached at least intermediate level.The level of difficulty ranges from roughly grade 6 to grade 8, tending to the higher end, in the system used in Australia, the UK and other countries.Some of the etudes are fairly straightforward, but others, such as No. 7 (If Only . . .) and No. 12 (Grand Etude) look tougher. Subtone is required in some.The preface says that the book was composed to develop 'positive playing' at an advanced level. However, one interprets that, these pieces are fun to play.
