When a friend of mine asked me if I knew of any duetsfor middle school tuba players, I thought back to my days inband class. There wasn't much published music back theneither, so I would write or arrange little tunes and we'dplay them either for ourselves or for a judge at festival.Those were fun times.I perused the internet for such duets, thinking therehad to be at least a nice collection for young players. Theresults of the little search surprised and saddened me at thesame time. I sat down and wrote a simple duet and sent it tomy friend, asking if the skill level was right and if therewould be a need for an expanded set. When both answers cameback in the affirmative, I set to writing, thinking againback to my youth and those wonderful times playing music withmy friends.I hope this set satisfies both the interest of thestudent and the teacher as each continues to seek excellencein the practice room and on the stage.
