About Victoria Glaser

Victoria Glaser (1918-2007) was a distinguished American composer, musician, and influential educator, primarily recognized for her significant contributions to classical music through her choral, instrumental, and pedagogical works. Her multifaceted career established her as a prominent figure in the Boston musical community, leaving a lasting legacy through her compositions and her pioneering role in music education. Glaser's commitment to fostering musical talent and her profound understanding of theory shaped generations of musicians.

Victoria Glaser received a comprehensive musical education, studying theory with renowned figures such as Walter Piston and Nadia Boulanger, and instrumental performance with Georges Laurent (flute) and Frederick Tillotson (piano).
She was an early pioneer in the development of the Preparatory Division at the New England Conservatory, where she taught a wide array of subjects including theory, ear training, sight singing, flute, piano, cello, and organ from 1957 to 1982.
Beyond her academic roles, Glaser served as the Organist and Choir Director of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Cambridge, demonstrating her practical involvement in sacred music.
Glaser also authored the book "Training for Musicianship," published in 1971, which reflects her deep expertise in music pedagogy and her dedication to foundational musical instruction.
