About Darmon Meader

Darmon Meader is a highly acclaimed figure in the jazz world, recognized internationally as a distinguished vocalist, arranger, saxophonist, and composer. He is best known as the founder, musical director, chief arranger, and tenor vocalist for the Grammy-winning vocal quartet New York Voices, an ensemble that has significantly contributed to the contemporary vocal jazz landscape. Meader's work is characterized by its sophisticated harmonic language, intricate arrangements, and a seamless blend of instrumental and vocal artistry, solidifying his significance as a versatile and influential jazz musician.

Darmon Meader co-founded the celebrated jazz vocal group New York Voices in 1987 with fellow Ithaca College alumni, leading them to international recognition and numerous recordings on prominent labels such as GRP, RCA/Victor, Concord, and MCGJazz.
Beyond his vocal prowess, Meader is a prolific and highly sought-after arranger, having orchestrated much of the New York Voices' extensive songbook and creating arrangements for acclaimed artists like Nancy Wilson, Ann Hampton Calloway, and the Boston Pops.
He is deeply committed to music education, regularly serving as a clinician and guest artist at high school and university levels, and previously holding jazz faculty positions at institutions such as the Manhattan School of Music and Indiana University.
Meader is also a respected solo artist, having released albums such as "And So Am I" (2008) and "Losing My Mind" (2023), which showcase his diverse talents as a singer, saxophonist, writer, and arranger across a range of jazz standards and original compositions.
