There are a whole host of musical events and performances taking place across the capital this Easter weekend, with the opportunity to see Britain’s brightest young musicians in some of the country’s best venues.If you’ve not already otherwise committed over the holidays, then the chance to catch some of the best up-and-coming talent could be the perfect treat to take your mind off the dreaded return to work.
And Youth Music has helpfully compiled a list of some of the best things to see and do this Easter weekend. The recommendations include performances by the National Youth Orchestra, National Youth Jazz Choirs, National Youth Choirs of Great Britain and Youth Music ambassador, Julian Joseph.
Kicking off the performances on Sunday April 24th, Britain’s brightest young orchestral talent will be taking to the stage at the Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, London.
Featuring 170 young instrumentalists, the National Youth Orchestra will perform at the venue alongside choirs from The Sage Gateshead. Expect to hear Judith Weir’s award-winning We Are Shadows and Mahler’s Symphony No.10 conducted by Vasily Petrenko performed.
It’s certainly an event not to be missed, with the Observer noting earlier this year that “the home-grown heroes of the precociously talented National Youth Orchestra are on dazzling form. A brilliant constellation of young stars who produce miracles”.
In addition to this, on Easter Monday there is the chance to see the National Youth Choirs of Great Britain, National Youth Jazz Collective and jazz pianist and composer Julian Joseph performing at The Barbican at 3pm.
You can also catch a free pre-concert workshop at 1.45pm led by jazz legend Pete Churchill with an open vocal session for budding musicians before.
