Donna Summer passed away today in Florida aged 63 following her battle with lung cancer.
A winner of five GRAMMY awards, Summer rose to fame with songs such as Hot Stuff and Bad Girls, the latter of which went double platinum in 1979.
She also co-wrote the 1975 single Love to Love You Baby and went on to contribute towards several other hits as co-writer, including She Works Hard For Her Money.
The Queen of Disco made her big screen debut in the 1978 film, Thank God It’s Friday, but it was a song she had contributed towards for the picture’s soundtrack, Last Dance, that would take the plaudits, winning the Oscar that year for Best Original Song.
The singer’s family issued a statement earlier today saying they “are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy.” Summer is survived by her husband, three daughters, and four grandchildren.
