The Liverpudlian told ITV 2’s The Xtra Factor of his devastation at leaving the show, stating that he is “gutted, but has had an amazing time”.
Craig left the show after singing Carole King’s Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, while Amelia sang You and I by Lady Gaga.
Gary Barlow and Kelly Rowland chose to save their own acts, with Barlow suggesting that Amelia had shouted through her survival song. Tulisa chose to send home Amelia, while Louis sent Craig home, explaining that he thought Amelia to be a ready-made popstar who would go on to real success after the show has finished.
The indecision by the judges meant that for the first time the competition went to deadlock, with the person with the lowest public votes forced to leave, putting Craig out of the competition.
In Saturday’s show, Craig sang James Bond song License To Kill in a movie-themed week. Amelia sang Think from Bridget Jones Diary.
Tulisa’s last remaining group Little Mix showed off their vocal talents by singing En Vogue’s Don’t Let Go from the film Set It Off, while Marcus Collins wowed the judges with Higher and Higher from the film Ghostbusters II.
Kelly, who now has three acts in the contest, brought Misha B to the stage with Whitney Houston’s I Have Nothing from The Bodyguard. After ending twice in the bottom two, she was the first to get through to next week’s show in last night’s final.
Janet Devlin, meanwhile, won favour with the judges by singing Kiss Me from She’s All That after a couple of weeks of lacklustre performances.
While Craig will no longer be appearing on Saturday nights, all six finalists were told that they had made it to the X Factor Tour and will also be on the charity single.
