Coldplay hint their fifth album could be their last

Coldplay have hinted that their upcoming fifth studio album, Mylo Xyloto, will be their last.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, lead singer Chris Martin said: “This could be our last album. It’s the distillation of three years’ work and right now I can’t imagine where another one would come from.”
Mylo Xyloto, which is released on October 24th, will follow their album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, the best-selling album of 2008.
The pressure of releasing a follow-up that is just as good has sparked fear among the band.
“We have a British insecurity, like we’re doing all right but we could be doing better,” said drummer Will Champion, with Martin adding his fears that fans will not want to buy the album because “the last one was good”.
And the youth of pop stars like Justin Bieber and Adele is making things even harder for Coldplay, who are all in their 30s.
Martin told the news provider: “Now we have Justin Bieber and Adele to compete with and they’re a lot younger. We have to have the energy to put as much effort into our work as they do.
“If it’s over, it’s over and I can live with that. The most important thing always is to proceed as if every album is the last and not expect anything more.”
Two singles from the upcoming album have already been released, Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall and Paradise. The album will also feature a guest appearance from Rihanna, who Martin asked personally if she would lend her voice. She sings on the track Princess of China.
Earlier this month, the band said Mylo Xyloto is a concept album about two people who fall in love, with “love conquering all” by the end. It also features more modern, urban and dance influences than previous albums have seen.
