Busy spring for G. Schirmer composers

Taking place this spring, a number of artists residing on the G. Schirmer roster are preparing to debut exciting new chamber music works.
The publishing company is preparing for a busy few months, with no fewer than six of its composers readying themselves for opening performances.
It started with prolific US composer David Lang‘s highly-anticipated work which accompanied the opening of the St. Luke’s Chamber Ensemble’s new venue, the DiMenna Center for Classical Music on March 8th. The short piece has been scored for two piccolos, two trumpets and a drummer.
Elsewhere, sopranos, flautists, violists, harpists and percussionists may be interested in the next work by Pulitzer Prize winning composer Aaron Jay Kernis. Commissioned by Astral Artists, da l’Arte Della Danssar will make its debut on March 20th.

This is due to be followed on March 30th by Julia Wolfe‘s multi-media piece, entitled Combat de Boxe, which has been commissioned by Asko/Schonberg and will accompany a film by Charles Dekeukeleire.
Gabriela Lena Frank has written a piece for the Mallarme Chamber Players which will premiere on May 1st. The work designed is for flute, viola and harp players.
Following that, and taking place on April 10th and 12th, the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will be premiering a string sextet by Russian composer Lera Auerbach. There will also be the opportunity for the audience to speak to Auerbach for a pre-concert chat before each performance.
Avner Dorman has two new works debuting this spring both from pianist Xiayin Wang.  She is due to perform in recital at Alice Tully Hall on April 11th while the new violin and piano piece will receive its first play on April 16th.
