Beyonce to headline Glastonbury 2011

Singer Beyonce Knowles has confirmed that she will take to the stage at Beyonce: I Am... Sasha Fiercethis year’s Glastonbury Festival with a headline slot on Sunday.
The 29-year-old artist has issued a press release stating that she will perform a 90-minute show on the Pyramid Stage to close the four-day summer event on Sunday June 26th.
Commenting on the news, Beyonce said: “This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there. Everyone who attends is really appreciative of music and is in such a good mood that entire weekend.
“I’m pumped just thinking about that huge audience and soaking up their energy.”
The Halo singer follows in the footsteps of husband Jay-Z whose appearance as a headliner at Glastonbury 2008 divided the opinion of many festival-goers.
Organisers have recently confirmed that Coldplay will be joining Beyonce The Coldplay Collectionat the event and headlining the Pyramid Stage on the Saturday night.
“Coldplay have played such a major part in the festival over the last ten years or so,” Michael Eavis, the man behind the event, commented.
“As their popularity grew around the world I was so proud of them. This is the triumphant return of a band that everyone here feels part of. They’re one of the greatest phenomena to grow from these fields.”
Last year’s event saw Stevie Wonder, Muse and Gorillaz headline, with the latter called in to replace U2, who were forced to pull out after singer Bono suffered a back injury.
Over the course of her career, Beyonce has won 13 Grammy Awards as a solo artist and three as a member of her former group Destiny’s Child. She has sold a reported 75 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling musicians of all time.
