The 2012 Ivor Novello awards took place this afternoon at London’s Grosvenor House hotel to a room packed with the great and good of the music industry.
After a stellar 2011, many expected Adele to dominate the awards which are now in their 57th year.
Whilst Adele didn’t conquer every category she was nominated for, the Someone Like You singer did do well, walking away with two gongs for Most Performed Work for Rolling In The Deep and Songwriter of the Year.
Elsewhere, Alex Heffes won the award for Original Film Score for his work on The First Grader whilst Take That took home the award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music, receving a standing ovation as they collected their statuette.
“There’s nothing like winning an Ivor as a songwriter… we love it”, said Gary Barlow as he accepted the honour.
Mark Knopfler, Jimmy Webb and Andrew Lloyd Webber were recognised for their long standing achievements and contributions to music with the evening’s prestigious legacy awards.
Other big winners at the gala event included Stan Treacey who picked up the first ever Ivors Jazz Award, and Gary Kemp who received the award for Outstanding Song Collection.
The Ivors are annual award ceremony organised in association with BASCA and the PRS, that celebrates and honours excellence in songwriting and composing.
