Adele storms UK and world charts for a second time

Singer-songwriter Adele has followed up on her debut album success by Adele: 21storming the UK charts for the second time.
The British artist’s latest release, 21, has become the biggest January seller for five years after shifting 208,000 copies in a single week.
According to the Official Chart Update, the album sold over 100,000 copies in its first two days on sale and completely outsold the rest of the top ten combined.
The singer knocked Bruno Mars’ album, Doo-wops and Hooligans, from the top slot.
Meanwhile, the release of her second album has also sparked interest in Adele’s debut recording, with 19 re-entering the charts at number four meaning the singer has two LPs in the top five.
This means that she is the first artist for nearly 12 years to have a number one album and another entry in the top five at the same time.
And interest in the album is not just confined to the UK, with it becoming Adele: 19 (PVG)an instant hit overseas in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand and Switzerland.
Speaking to the BBC, the Grammy Award-winning artist said that she was delighted about the reaction to the album.
“I wasn’t expecting this. I wasn’t expecting an eighth of what’s happened,” Adele added. “There’s no other feeling like doing well from where you’re from. It’s the most amazing feeling.”
“Some people have come back with second records and no-ones liked them so I feel like the best blagger in the world.”
And Adele’s success has not gone unnoticed, over the course of her career she has been put forward for a number of awards and accolades culminating in a double Grammy Award win in February 2009 for Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
