Adele picks up UK Music Video Award

Adele has won a UK Music Video Award for best pop video with the track Rolling in the Deep.
The awards, the fourth of their kind in the UK, were held last night (November 8th) in London’s Leicester Square.
It is the latest in a string of awards Adele has picked up for her album 21. Rolling in the Deep was the first single from the album and the video features a black-clad Adele sitting in a derelict house with a room full of glasses of water shaking to the drum beat and crockery being broken.
The prize comes as the singer is undergoing an operation in the US on her throat. She has been forced to cancel most of her tour dates in the UK and the US because of her illness, although she is expected to make a full recovery.
Other winners on the night included Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Otis. They picked up the award for best urban video – international for their video directed by Spike Jonze.
Also picking up an international award was Arcade Fire for the Suburbs. It too was directed by Jonze and won in the best alternative category.
Tinie Tempah picked up a prize for best live music coverage, while Eyes Wide Shut, the track by JLS featuring the British rapper, picked up the people’s choice award.
Jonas Akerlund was recognised with an icon award for directing hit videos including Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi and Telephone, as well as Ray of Light by Madonna. The award was presented by Duran Duran.
Speaking to the BBC, director of the awards David Knight said there has been “a resurgence of the medium as a creative force”.
Other categories at the awards include best animation in a video, best choreography, editing, styling and best music advert.
