“Some of the greatest names in music” have signed up to the Michael Jackson tribute concert, Michael Forever, according to the late singer’s mother, Katherine.
Although few names have been announced, the Jackson family and organiser Global Live Events promised that they will unveil “an incredible line-up very soon”.
However, the concert, which has an initial date of October 8th and will be held at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, has been met with controversy.
Fans have criticised the event for failing to open ticket registrations online. Registration was meant to open last week.
Chris Hunt, chairman of Global Live, said in a statement: “The organisers of the Michael Forever Tribute Concert are very mindful of the expectations of the fans, who have waited over two years for an event that will do justice to Michael’s musical legacy.
“The registration period was put on hold because we want people to know who they are registering to see,” he added.
“Between now and October we will be continuing to add names to the line-up so more announcements will follow. Fans of Michael’s music will get the concert they’ve been waiting for.”
Cee Lo Green and Craig David have been announced as acts set to play at the concert.
Jackson’s mother has also said that she has invited popstars including Jay-Z, Kanye West, Christina Aguilera, Justin Bieber and Usher to attend.
Two of the Billie Jean singer’s brothers have also revealed their disapproval of the timing of the show. Jermaine and Randy Jackson have said that they “support the spirit of a tribute” but opposed the October date as it will take place during the criminal trial of Dr Conrad Murray surrounding their brother’s death.
The rest of the Jackson family are in full support of the show, however and speculation has arisen about a possible Jackson reunion.
“I know my brother would be very, very proud to see all the artists that he admired and respected so much coming together for this event,” Tito Jackson said.
