Abbey Road studios granted listed status

Abbey Road SignAbbey Road studios have been saved from developers amid fears EMI were planning to sell them, it has been announced.
On the advice of English Heritage, the iconic recording studios made famous by the Beatles in the sixties have been given Grade II status by the government.
Culture minister Margaret Hodge said yesterday that the listed status had been granted ‘overwhelmingly on the historic merit of the studios’.
Highlighting their importance to the British music scene, the government released a statement which said: “The Abbey Road studios have been listed in acknowledgement of their outstanding cultural interest.
“To ensure that recording artists for generations can continue to make and record music in the same rooms as musical icons of years gone by.”
The studios hosted the Beatles for the majority of their recordings, including Revolver and their final album named after the venue.
Abbey Road Studios has recently announced that it is introducing a new range of products designed for music lovers and musicians.
