123 get ready to sing!

Classic FM 123 SingThe time is rapidly approaching for people all over the UK to join together, loosen their vocal cords and celebrate the power of singing.
Taking place on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of October, interest in Classic FM and Music Manifesto’s 123 Sing! event is hotting up, with community groups and individuals looking to highlight the beneficial effects of singing in everyday life.
Anyone can join in with the celebration, with members of the public invited to host, join in or simply enjoy a singing-based event over the course of the weekend.
The long-term health and wellbeing benefits of singing have been widely documented and the 123 Sing! event could provide the perfect platform for individuals to release their inhibitions and find them out for themselves.
Professor Stephen Clift, of the Sidney De Haan Research Centre at Canterbury Christ Church University, which is the only research institution in the world that focuses on singing and health, said that the initiative was a “fantastic idea”.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to come together and sing,” he added. “A growing body of research shows that singing is good for wellbeing. So people can join in with singing and have a good time and know that it’s doing their health good too.”
Meanwhile, Making Music’s chief executive Robin Osterley was equally full of praise for the potential health benefits for individuals.
“There has never been a better time to get out there and sing. Singing makes you happy, it’s good for you physically and mentally, and anyone can do it regardless of their personal or financial circumstances,” he explained.
The occasion has been designed to help raise funds and awareness of Classic FM’s Music Makers charity, which runs a number of music education and therapy projects with some of the most disadvantaged children and adults in the UK.
All types and styles of music are welcome, so whether you are a budding rock star or talented tenor, you can get involved.
